19 of Medvedev's 21 championships have been won on hard surfaces

A revitalized Daniil Medvedev claimed his maiden title for 882 days with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The athlete, a former top-ranked player, has had a torrid season, winning just a single victory at the Grand Slams and suffering a setback at the New York tournament.

The player's unpredictability on the professional circuit - and issues with his serving in particular - resulted in him dropping out of the elite rankings and eventually splitting with long-term coach Gilles Cervara.

Presently working with Johansson and Goetzke, the tennis star has gradually improved in the past month - culminating in a tightly fought competitive victory over challenger Moutet.

It is the player's first championship since the Rome competition and maiden on a hardcourt since spring of that year.

Success also indicates the Russian has secured twenty-one championships at 21 different tournaments.

"It's the first time I'm at a competition with my two daughters at once, so to get a championship is particularly special," said ranked player Medvedev.

"This title is in dedication of my younger daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I got when my older daughter her name was born was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had lost his last six championship matches, comprising in the German tournament earlier this year.

Medvedev's retrieving play style and regular outbursts on the tennis court had caused observers to wonder if his skill to compete at the elite level was finished.

Yet the player has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, attempting to approach the net and perform aggressively, backed up by an better serving game.

The champion recovered from a break down in the initial set against the difficult Moutet, securing four of the concluding five exchanges to take the lead.

The pair traded break points in the following set before Moutet, attempting for his maiden ATP Tour victory, seized the initiative to force a decider.

Moutet saved 4 early break points in a tight third set before the champion broke to fifteen to close out the victory.

Fittingly, he clinched victory with a point at the net, with Moutet incapable to control a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
